by Jerry P. Weiers, Mayor, City of Glendale
It is my great pleasure to serve as Mayor of such a dynamic city. Whether you are a visitor, resident, or business owner, Glendale has something to offer you. We take pride in staying true to our mission – we improve the lives of the people we serve every day.
With easy access to freeways that connect travelers from one side of metropolitan Phoenix to the other, Glendale is home to a thriving local business community and large dynamic corporations including Banner Health System, Honeywell, Humana, Conair, Progressive, CSAA/AAA and Bechtel. This fall, Luxury vehicle brand BMW will be opening its first dealership in the West Valley located in North Glendale. We are extremely proud to be home to Luke Air Force Base, which serves as a training site for the F-16 and F-35 programs.
Our community also features accommodations for the business traveler such as quality hotels, nearby golf courses and a municipal airport that just celebrated its 30th anniversary. Glendale is proud to feature highly respected corporations and universities, including the only veterinary medical school in Arizona, Midwestern University.
Sports & Entertainment District
As one of Arizona’s largest cities, Glendale features a vibrant sports, entertainment, and shopping destination that is continuing to grow. The area will soon be home to TopGolf, a premier golf, entertainment and event venue. And, the Westgate Entertainment District continues to add new attractions like the Stir-Crazy Comedy Club, Tavern + Bowl, Popbar, Dutch Bros., Twin Peaks and much more. In April, Aloft Hotels broke ground on a four-story, 100-room development.
For the avid sports fan, we have our city’s year-round professional sports partners including the Arizona Cardinals and Arizona Coyotes. Glendale is also the spring training home of MLB’s Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.
More than just sports, our nationally accredited parks and recreation programs provide a great opportunity to unplug and enjoy the outdoors. Consider a hike at Thunderbird Conservation Park; take in the picturesque rose garden at historic Sahuaro Ranch Park; or spend the day at nearby Heroes Park featuring X-Court, Archery Range, and NCAA branded basketball courts. For a more leisurely experience, Glendale’s Historic Downtown features a traditional “town square” park, unique shops, local theater and arts and award-winning restaurants.
Glendale is partnering with Arizona Sports & Tourism Authority and other cities in Arizona’s bid to host Super Bowl LVII in 2023. The Glendale team has been a partner in hosting large-scale sporting events for over 10 years. In addition to the annual PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, our hosting resume includes NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four, three college football national championships, two Super Bowls, Pro Bowl, Copa America Centenario soccer and a multitude of concerts and other events.
